BFD Deluxe Collection is a download-only expansion pack for BFD2 BFD Eco and BFD Eco DV, FXpansion’s software acoustic drum systems. Recorded with an incredible array of rare and vintage microphones at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio studios in Chicago, USA, the kits include vintage sets alongside modern classics, a boutique prototype BackYard Drums kit, several extra snares, kick versions with different beaters and meticulously recorded hihats and cymbals. The recording techniques employed contribute hugely to the musicality and definition of the sounds. Tuning, mic placement and processing of certain magesypro audio channels. The mics, including Josephson e22, c42 and c609, Royer R122 ribbons and the fabled Altec 150 ‘coke bottles’, were routed through the preamps on a custom Neotek console. BFD Deluxe Collection’s sounds feature stunning levels of detail, with many sounds captured with 128 velocity layers. Also included are the ashibyoshi foot beats and tsukeuchi sound-effect clappers crucial to Kabuki performance. The instruments are played by master traditional Japanese percussionist Takinojo Mochizuki with alternating left/right hits and up to 99 velocity layers.

Other highlights include bongos, hand drums, tambourines, claps and junk percussion alongside vintage analogue drum machines recorded both dry and played out over a custom PA rig in the drum room – these sound great magesy torrent layered with other drums or naked in your mix.

Perfect for all genres of jazz, funk and neo-soul, Camco drums are sought after by players and collectors alike for their clarity of tone and warm sustain. This kit was tuned medium-high and recorded with sticks and brushes. The collection comes with a set of Istanbul cymbals – including a beautiful 24″ ride – plus a 1930s Round Badge Gretsch snare drum, offering a low and fat alternative to the Camco kit snare.

BFD Crush is an expansion pack for BFD3, BFD2, and BFD Eco, that captures a stunning Crush Drums Sublime AXM drum kit. Tuned and processed by our in-house engineers to sound loud and proud out of the box, this kit is perfect for all progressive and technical rock and metal genres. It comes with a full complement of Meinl Byzance cymbals, which also includes a range of stacked cymbals. Our engineers used a range of exceptional microphones perfectly suited for heavier music. The kick drum was recorded in three variations; dampened, fully open, and without the resonant head, and was captured using the infamous Audix D6, Sennheiser E602, and the AKG D112. An AEA R84 ribbon microphone was also used to provide a different texture to the kick. The kit was recorded with three snares across eight variations, giving you a range of dampened and resonant tones, as well as low and high tunings. Our approach of using a combination of dynamic and condenser microphones on the snare gives you maximum flexibility, and we used a ribbon microphone on the snares too. We complement the kicks and snares with a set of six tom drums – two floor toms and four rack toms – which allow you to choose whether you want a set of three lower tuned toms, or three higher tuned toms. Or why not load all six toms at once for a huge progressive drum kit! These were recorded with the same microphones as the kick drum to allow you to find the perfect balance of tones between the entire shell set.
BFD Sleishman Snares is an expansion for BFD3, BFD Eco and BFD2 with 4 premium Sleishman free-floating snare drums. Sleishman’s system of suspending the drum shell without any physical contact with lugs and other hardware with a patented tuning system keeping both heads precisely in tune results in unique sound, sustain and purity of tone. BFD Sleishman Snares includes a 14″ maple shell snare (played with rods and sticks), a 10″ maple piccolo (sticks only), a 13″ rosegum snare (brushes and sticks) and a 14″ blue acrylic (sticks only). Some snares feature additional articulations when used with BFD3 and BFD2.
