Since that time, Rickenbacker guitars have been championed by a broad cross section of artists as diverse as The Beatles, The Byrds, The Jam, and Radiohead.We recently had the good fortune of spending some quality time with a classic Rickenbacker 330 and, after getting acquainted with its distinct characteristics through a Vox AC-30 modded to vintage specs, we’re pleased to offer you the results; 3 velocities of mutes and tones combined with a chord selection that really hits the Ric’s sweet spot: Major & Minor Chords, Dom7, Add9 and 7Sus4’s for that pleasingly retro feel that never seems to go out of style.
Using close microphone techniques at Wellspring Studios in Boston, this collection captures the most natural elements of a beautiful set of DW and Pearl Drumkits. Renowned studio engineer Coleman Rogers helped us sample this kit using his arsenal of great magesy torrent mics, pre-amps, and compressors. After 3 days and nights sampling every drum and every cymbal, using different sticks at different velocities, at different places on the drums. Session Drums 1 features incredible drum realism. All stereo samples, all multi-velocity samples (each drum and cymbal has up to 4 separate samples from magesy download soft to loud). Even the hi-hats are multi-velocity. We also threw in some extra hi-hat “shank” samples for hard-hitting rock tunes. Everything is laid out in GM keymaps so you can swap these kits easily into your existing sequences.
Just as Rickenbacker guitars are famous for their singular sound, Ric basses have become just as sought after for their unmistakable individuality. We sampled this Rickenbacker model 4003 black beauty in 2 different configurations; direct and played finger-style for a very ‘McCartney-esque’ tone and using the Ric’s stereo jack to send the bridge and neck pickups through an Ampeg bass cab and a Joe Meek tube compressor, respectively. The resulting picked tone is thick and meaty in the lower register while still retaining a characteristic punch up top. This flexible combination of feel and sound will give you a beefy arsenal of Ric bass tone that works wonders in a variety of musical applications.
