Combining the textural intricacy of FM with the freeform approach of a modular system, Bengal is a sound designer’s dream with its four operators, eight voices of polyphony, six audio effects and a flexible modulation architecture centred on an interactive virtual patchbay. Semi-modular and polyphonic: Bengal is a semi-modular synth, meaning that although its component modules (operators, filters, etc) are all fixed, they can be patched together in a huge range of configurations in the giant Patch panel at the bottom. Connect square output sockets to round input sockets by dragging virtual patchcords between them – it couldn’t be easier. Bengal is also eight-voice polyphonic, so it’s just as at home blasting out huge chords as it is one-finger basslines.

Soon you’ll be able to receive and modulate CV between your modular or other CV-based gear and Ableton Live 10 using a compatible, DC-coupled audio interface. You’ll also be able to use Live as the tempo leader or set it to follow your modular system clock. Plus, even if you don’t own a modular setup, the Rotating Rhythm Generator and CV Utility devices can add modular-style workflow inside Live or to hardware setups that don’t use CV-based equipment. CV Tools is being developed by Ableton in collaboration with Skinnerbox.

Polite 800 introduces another famous eighties synthesizer: the Korg Poly 800. This little leight-weight plastic thing was meant to be a performance synthesizer because it can run on batteries, has guitar strap pegs and inverted key colors. On the other hand programming this thing isn´t really a performance because like the majority of the budget synths of this time the Poly 800 has to be conquered with nothing more than a number block plus an increase and decrease button. The Universal Pack contains 32 multi-sample patches that load into numerous software samplers like Kontakt (NI), NN-XT (Reason). EXS 24 (Logic), Directwave (IL) as well as each other software sampler that supports the Cakewalk sfz format.
