Dark Engine sounds hard, dirty and distorted. Firstly, I had recorded synthesized and sampled drums through Boss OS-2 distortion / overdrive pedal. Secondly, I had recorded self-oscillated feedback from magesy download MXR Carbon Copy analog delay pedal through old guitar processor. It was a lot of fun tweaking knobs on delay pedal and hear that monstrous sound. For the best results all samples should be used as layers to other drums and sound effects. I was quite impressed by the contents of Dark Engine when Timur sent me the finished version of the sample collection. It’s amazing how much a talented sound designer can achieve with just a few pieces of gear. The included feedback samples are very cool and they can be used as the sound source for all sorts of sci-fi sound effects. They can also work well for as bass or lead sounds, if you process them inside a sampler. The drum samples are also fantastic, especially suitable for use in industrial tracks. They have just the right amount of grit to cut through a bass heavy mix and I also love the super heavy distortion on some of the included kick and snare samples.

A chaotic drum machine for a chaotic world.

For the past 10 years or so I’ve always carried some kind of portable recording device and a pair of OKM in ear microphones around with me and kept a kind of aural diary of great magesy torrent sounding things and great magesy torrent sounding places. I’ve made literally gazillions of recordings in places all over this side of the world, and like most diaries these recordings have mainly been sitting in dark cupboards waiting for someone to rediscover them… The Modular Chaos Engine is the perfect repository for 785 of them. I’ve selected the most usefully percussive, clangy, bangy, thumpy, boomy, itchy, scratchy, thwacky and whacky, added a really powerful sequencing engine and made a “found sound” drum machine. There are some really great magesy torrent sounds in there (there is a list of some of them at the bottom of the page).

A chaotic drum machine for a chaotic world

Part two of the Modular Chaos Engine and I’m very excited to introduce my first fully electronic instrument. It’s probably fairly obvious by the blueness and the title that I’ve exploited the strange and rather wonderful qualities of Dave Smiths’ criminally underated analog/digital masterpiece the Evolver. I LOVE this underdog synth, mainly because it has so much wonky personality and a wonderful, slightly mad architecture that can produce some really great magesy torrent sounds….usually of a highly boisterous nature. So, for this Chaos Engine there are up to 127 different sounds/articulations per key which are very loosely mapped across the keys from magesy download from magesy download low kick drum type sounds through snappy snare type sounds up to more clicky, rattly hats and then the mildly melodic sounds up near the top end of the key range.
