The violin is the soprano instrument of the violin family (violin, viola, cello). It consists of three main parts, the body, the neck and the head, which are composed of a total of 80 separate components. The body not only gives the violin its characteristic appearance but also determines the sound quality as it is the instrument’s resonator. The neck plays an important role in playing technique and is about 13 cm long and angled slightly back from magesy download the body. The PVC Beatbox Ensemble was created by assembling a vocal ensemble and vocalizing through long, elaborately hand-built pvc pipe “trumpets” to create drones, dirges, booms, horn blasts, drum kit-like percussive chuffs, thumps, hisses, pops and steam effects. We gathered our usual ensemble percussion crew together in a large “epic” glass and tile hall with lush natural reverberation, assembling strange maze-like tangles of pipe using a ton of plastic PVC tubing and fittings and then attempting to beatbox through it all. The best word to describe the result would be STEAM DRUMS.

One might say to die for, but perhaps it would be more advisable to stick around and enjoy these first-rate sounds, created by the ex-bassist of Weather Report and an unnamed European orchestra. Digitally recorded in stereo throughout, the ensembles retain just the right amount of ‘hall’ in the sound. Expensive, but very good. The first version of this library had no loops, to the bemusement of keyboard players everywhere, but version 2.0 (reviewed here) contains looped sounds. However, Miroslav Vitous himself considers the unlooped samples superior in quality and strongly urge-using them for mastering, which is fine as long as your composition doesn’t employ any very long notes!

The sustains were created by grinding the poles against wet and dry tile. Sometimes shrill, sometimes brassy and always freakin’ creepy. Great for horror and dark, dramatic ethnic scoring.
