    An Omnichord is an electronic musical instrument, introduced in 1981 and manufactured by the Suzuki Musical Instrument Corporation. It typically features a touch plate, and buttons for major, minor, and diminished chords. The most basic method of playing the instrument is to press the chord buttons and swipe the touch plate with a finger or guitar pick in imitation of strumming a stringed instrument. The Omnichord we have sampled here is a ‘System Two’, and it has a great magesy torrent synth tone, which sounds ‘cheap’ in all the right ways. You can mix two different tones, one straight, and one modulated with a basic LFO. While not sounding much like a plucked string, it does have a pure character all its own, which won it many fans, such as Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, to name but two.

      The E.M.S. Synthi AKS is a legendary instrument with an illustrious history. First manufactured in 1972 by E.M.S in Putney, South-West London, The Synthi A was basically a portable version of EMS’s famous VCS3 synthesiser, and the KS Keyboard (a playable 30-note touchplate) was added to make the Synthi AKS. It cost £420.It was quickly adopted by the likes of Brian Eno and Pink Floyd, and has been used by experimental musicians ever since. The Synthi has a unique patching system that uses a small patchbay grid. Each of the Synthi’s components appear as a source and destination on the patchbay, and by placing a pin into that x-y position, you can route the signal from magesy download one component to the other. This was a very effective way to make a powerful modular system very compact.

        DVDR HAPPY NEW YEAR

        Named after the Greek god of dreams, the Morpheus is an aluminum percussion instrument made by the US company Freenotes. The instrument is modular; the keys can be rearranged in any order you like, as each metal bar is attached to its own tuned resonator. The instrument is available in several different sizes – the version we sampled is two and a half octaves, with the optional ‘bass Wing’ extension which offers six notes ranging another octave below that of the main unit. The keys are struck with custom mallets, also built by Freenotes, and ring freely afterwards. There is no damping mechanism.

          The Tape Choir was a project to attempt to recreate the famous vocal choir pad sound from magesy download 10cc’s ‘I’m Not In Love’. This particular sound is notorious in music production circles, owning to the laborious lengths the producers took to create it : 3 male vocalists stood around a single valve mic, and each sang the same note in unison, holding it for as long as they were able. This strenuous process was repeated 16 times for each note (due to the limitations of a 16 track tape machine), then bounced down to a single track for each of the 13 notes in the chromatic scale. Each of these notes was a tape loop, and so was looping out of sync with every other notes, producing this ‘infinite’ choir sound, which could be controlled by the mixing desk, by fading up a single note per channel.

            The Kim is a type of dulcimer or zither from magesy download Thailand, and is related to the Chinese yangqin. Sometimes spelled khim, the instrument consists of a flat soundbox with 42 wire strings stretched across in 14 sets of 3. The courses are struck with two thin bamboo mallets with soft leather tips. The Kim is not a very loud instrument, and is typically played with a lot of tremolo. As there is no damping mechanism, the strings ring to their natural decay, and this gives an eerie resonance to the background of a Kim performance. The Kim is used in both solo and ensemble situations. The Kim was sampled at 24 bit /44.1 and contains 137 seperate unlooped samples. Each note was sampled individually with up to 5 velocity layers, twice, to give an extremely natural, expressive response. This extremely unusual instrument can add an atmospheric edge to all kinds of production, from magesy download film scoring to ambient soundscaping to folk.
