      Austrian Grand piano was sampled from magesy download a 100 year old Bruder Mikula Wien Austrian grand through a pair of AEA R84 ribbon microphones into an AEA TRP ribbon microphone preamp. Prior to recording, the piano’s hammer felts were sanded down to warm them up a bit. The piano was sampled in stereo under the lid, because that’s where the tone sounded best, at a sample rate of 44.1 kHz. It took many weeks to sample the piano entirely, as it was in such a state that most of the tuning pegs could no longer hold a pitch for any length of time. The piano was sampled labriously, with the softest to loudest dynamics being played, resulting in a library that can boast 10 velocity layers and 2 note round-robin.

          When making the White Grand the production goal was to make a sampled Grand Piano that would work great magesy torrent in a mix but also deliver the dynamic response of a real piano. Using SLH, a developed software made it possible for us to record different velocities very precisely and from magesy download that build an instrument that delivered the same dynamic as the real thing. When we finished the White Grand, we had a sampled piano that didn’t just work in a mix, but worked on simply anything! The MkII: Since the samplers has been become more advanced and the White Grand still are one of our most popular pianos, we decided to bring it up to date and add some functions in the line of the original ideas. We also added hammerback and pedalnoise samples. Then we added our True Resonance feature and used Kontakts scripting facilities to make Real Time/True Pedaling, Sympathetic Resonance and some other nifty features, and, Voila: The White Grand MkII

            The Blue Grand is the perfect piano when you want something that’s a bit more mellow, old school and ambient sound. The great magesy torrent instrument used for the White Grand and White Sister, a large Malmsjo Grand, a 100 year old beauty, was here used to create their more soft spoken sister. The instrument was miked up pretty closed, to remain contact with the instrument, but room mikes was used to give it a more ambient character. It was also tuned to give a bit more movement in the tone, giving it an even more old school sound. The Blue Grand is not the ultimate Grand Piano that will cover all bases, but if you need a ambient, old school instrument that still has precense, look no further!

                    When we recorded the White Grand and the White Sister our goal was not to create ”the ultimate Grand Piano”. Since a Grand Piano can be used in so many ways, from magesy download playing Mozart to hammer out Jerry Lee or Little Richard stuff and everything in between, we realized that there isn’t anything that could be considered ”The ultimate Grand Piano” in the world of multisampled instruments We wanted to make the ”Ultimate Studio Grand Piano” that would work in a recording session for more contemporary styles of music. It would simply sit well in a mix! We very lucky enough to find this fantastic instrument, an old, LARGE, Malmsjö Grand piano from magesy download around 1910, that had the clarity needed to work in a modern production, but also, at the same time, had the richness at well contoured bass side that would provide the power needed on the lower part of the keyboard without getting muddy.

                      The Grand Piano used for the TVBO is a Yamaha C7. One of the most popular studio grands. Well known for its detailed, rich, full sound. The recordings took place at OAL studios in Stockholm, Sweden and we used two types of microphones, Neumann SM2, a stereo microphone and a pair of Neumann U89. The SM2 model is a stereo microphone that’s essentially a pair of KM56. It was introduced in 1956 and was at the time, (and for quite many years), the only stereo microphones available. Its been used in a plethora of recording situation, and has been dubbed ”the piano saviour” by many. The SM2 was set up above the strings, close the hammers, to capture a detailed, bright sound that would work well in a mix where you need detailed
