A tilt EQ is a filter that simultaneously boosts one end of the frequency spectrum while attenuating the other end. As it turns out this is an amazingly useful tool for brightening or darkening your tracks very quickly. Another reason this is super handy is that it allows you to change the tone of your track without changing the overall level. With traditional EQ plugins, as you boost certain frequencies, the overall sound gets louder. The problem with this is that our brains have the screwy little feature where louder music tends to sound better (even if it actually sounds worse. Make sense?). A tilt EQ works around that special feature in our brain so that you aren’t deceived by the changing level and you can know instantly if your are improving or worsening your sound.

Lively Audio Maxwell is a transparent look-ahead limiter for professional audio production and broadcasting, as well as home audio production. It’s the advanced version of our free Maxwell Smart. Maxwell is created with FlowStone, so it’s a 32-bit VST 2.4 plugin for Windows only at the moment (although 64-bit support for OS X and Windows are on our roadmap). MyDrumset was made as a test to see if I could make such a complex drum plugin. The recording of the drums was done very quickly with only me on everything from magesy download drumming to engineering. As you can imagine that is not a perfect way to record a drum kit and if you add the fact that the drums weren’t tuned, one of the cymbals had a crack in it, the heads were old and I did everything in about 2 hours, it’s nothing even close to the sound of the Drummix line of plugins. Still, I released it as a public beta just for fun and the response has been marvellous. Not only did this plugin beat two of the well-known brands in an anonymous poll, but it also got raving user reviews and was even reviewed in Sound on Sound!
