Over 300 samples of hybrid digital/analog drums, effects, and textures. DigiTape Hybrid Drums is a unique library of drum sounds that combine the best advantages of both families of audio technology. All of the many diverse sounds included in DigiTape Hybrid Drums were sculpted from magesy download digital oscillators and noise generators, and then creatively processed in many different ways. Once the sonic transformation was nearly complete, all of the samples were printed through a Studer analog tape recorder at variable levels of saturation to achieve an optimal level of harmonic distortion. The end result is an uncommon library of Kicks, Snares, Percussion and other textures that combine the sonic flexibility of Digital Synthesis and DSP with the old-fashioned warmth of analog tape.

In the mid 80′s AKAI released the infamous S900 which was to be one of the first of a new generation of highly affordable professional samplers. The S900 and it’s bigger brother, the S950, became big sellers and completely changed the playing field amongst their competitors with their five digit offerings. The S900 was a 12-bit machine with a tiny 750K memory and a floppy drive for sample storage. At the time it was a revelation but it’s now really very basic by today’s standards. However…. Like so many early samplers such as the E-mu Emulator II, the SCI Prophet 2000 and the Ensoniq Mirage, the S900 has sonic character in bucket loads and still has a following to this day. One feature of the S900 that was often overlooked was a curious 13 pin connector on the rear panel marked “VOICE OUT”…

PHAEDRA is a ZG/XFONIC Kontakt Player 2 virtual instrument featuring over 4 gigabytes of sounds, 20,000 samples and 720 patches. This is the ultimate virtual analogue synth. Unhappy with the lack of raw sonic power in virtual emulations of VSTi analog synths, producer Sam Spacey set out on a three year journey to make the ultimate synth and ended up creating a monster in PHAEDRA. Constructed with the same attention to detail as a huge orchestral sample library, each of the 20,000 samples has been edited and looped by hand, with loops being very long so as to extract that lovely random analog magic. Nearly every single preset has each separate note sampled so as to eliminate aliasing within the instrument’s range. With Kontakt 2’s engine being fully exploited we have produced a library that is a full synthesizer in its own right.
