The Kopuz is one of the oldest string instruments to be found and mostly associated with Kurdistan, Turkey & Persia (nowadays Iran) and is known of use in various Sufi ceremonies and traditional music played throughout the region.

            The bouzouki is a greek string instrument related to the lute and reminiscent of a mandolin, but lower in pitch. Roy Kariok grew up in the Middle East, playing since he was a young boy and offers us a range of approaches to this string instrument, lesser known in the West and Far East. Four-course bouzouki (tetrachords) features a unique tuning system across eight steel strings. A pair of higher-pitched strings are tuned to the same note while the lower pairs of strings are tuned an octave apart.

From Lebanese descendant Tamar Shawki, to the Yemeni style singing of Shir Gadasi, Turkish influenced Maawal by Niri Sadeh, ancient Jewish Piyut by Dvir Hillel Cohen Eraki, to classic Arabic and Morrocon/Algerian style singing by Yohai Cohen. Each of the singers brought their own unique style and touch, echoing back the sounds of their musical and cultural roots.

                  Middle Eastern masters and prodigies, capturing the most diverse, high-quality, and unique musical material. In this pack we explored contemporary, electric, Middle Eastern Guitars that would bring out the spicy edge of Middle Eastern sounds. We recorded the Turkish ‘Baglama’ and electric guitars played by the very gifted Omri Zelig. Over the course of many hours we recorded various styles and rhythms making this sound pack as accessible to many genres of music production as we could. The Baglama (also known as ‘Saz’) has Persian/Turkish origins and is commonly used in Ottoman classical music, Turkish folk music, Azerbaijani music, Kurdish music, Armenian music and in parts of Syria, Iraq and the Balkan countries. We hope you’ll enjoy this one.

                    Bows have a special role in Middle Eatern music, More traditionally, the Kamache with its iconic heart breaking sound, an ancestor of the violin which is played positioned sitted on the musician’s leg and is common to Persian and Turkish music and also found throughout Central Asia. More recent is the violin which made its way to the Middle East and north Africa from magesy download Europe, it’s high pitch and the fact it can play the eastern (Maqam) scales gave it a special place in modern Middle Eastern music. For this pack we recorded masters Yagel Haroush on the Kamanche and maestro Gilad Hazan on the Violin.

A sacred instrument, traditionally believed to hold “the secret of god,” known throughout the entire region for its mesmerizing sound. It has been played continuously for 4,500–5,000 years, making it one of the oldest musical instruments still in use. For the pack we recorded the brilliant Niri Sade and Yagel Hroush, with a variety of styles ranging from magesy download Persian, Turkish and Classical Arabic scales, alongside contemporary styles that were specifically designed for modern production use.
