Ol’ Dirty Samples pays homage to the old school East Coast hip hop vibes of the basement studio. Walls of dusty records, buzzing hardware, and 16-pad samplers. A collection of grungy re-sampled loops, low bitrate piano chops, gritty drums, and nostalgic vocal stacks created in collaboration with Arthouse Acoustics. We recorded live with pro players including vintage pianos, double bass, soulful guitars, and full vocal choir stacks. Every composition was mixed, mastered, and then heavily re-sampled to create MPC style chops and cuts and nostalgic song-starters and one-shots. We employed heavy tape saturation, downsampling, pitched and reversed techniques to soak every loop with authentic golden era feel. Arthouse Acoustics raided their exclusive live drums, breaks, and percussion recording archives, chopping and processing unique hits to create a vintage-style kit perfect for boom bap and lo-fi hip hop.

OLD PIANOS evokes the sounds of the first pianos before the arrival of modern pianos as we know them.
Always wanted to sample a grand piano, but what’s the point? The market is oversaturated of piano libraries, and making another one is pointless unless you make it differently. We sampled a grand piano in mono using a low quality cassette recorder. When I say “low quality” I mean “very low quality”. Unlike other libraries availabe, the piano used was new and tuned, just the recorder was old. It has a lofi vibe to it, but without sacrificing dynamics. Don’t expect a clean sound, it’s the opposite. You can hear it on the demos, it’s perfect for music from magesy download the 40s, 50s, 60s… But it reminds me too that kind of “rare demos” from magesy download the stars of the 60s and 80s. 8 velocity layers, all notes sampled (no pitchshifting). The background noise was annoying (and there was a lot!) so we applied noise reduction but we made a loop file with the noise itself for if you want to use it. We love this instrument, we could play with it all day long, it’s completely addictive! And we loved the making of it, so you can expect other instruments recorded with this method.
For Old Broken Piano we have recorded an old piano manufactured in the 1940s by the brothers Manegold. It has not been maintained and tuned for decades, giving it a unique, dark and nostalgic sound character. The instrument was recorded with a Sennheiser MKH 8040 Stereo Pair connected to a Sound Devices 702T. MKH 8040 are microphones with extended frequency response up to 50.000 Hz, which is great magesy torrent if you want to further process, re-pitch or stretch audio files. Rather unconventional approaches were used to „play“ the piano: Not a single key was touched! It was performed using a violin bow, various mallets and sticks, kitchen utensils, sticky tape and bare hands. The casing of the piano was partly taken apart to get direct access to the strings and the interior components of the instrument. A wide array of interesting sounds have been achieved by bowing, scraping or hitting single and multiple strings or parts of the wood body. For longer resonances, the sustain pedal was pressed down during almost all recordings. Old Broken Piano is a collabration between SampleTraxx and german sound designer Sebastian Emling. This library is the ideal companion for any professional sound designer, trailer or film composer.
