Jerusalem-born and Brooklyn-based Zafer Tawil is an accomplished Palestinian musician who specializes in the oud, ney, vocals, violin, qanun, and Arabic percussion. Tawil performs worldwide and holds workshops in the oud technique and Arabic music theory. He’s continuously exploring the boundaries of Arabic music and has worked collaboratively on many concerts involving classical Indian and Persian music, as well as jazz fusion. For this pack, Tawil recorded the sounds of the oud, qanun, violin, dumbek, riq, ney, and frame drum. He layered multiple instruments and percussion together to create stacks of Arabic compositions. The result is a stunning compilation of the unique and shimmering sounds of Palestine with loops ranging from magesy download low to high BPM, as well as one-shots for total customization in your productions.

Bows have a special role in Middle Eatern music, More traditionally, the Kamache with its iconic heart breaking sound, an ancestor of the violin which is played positioned sitted on the musician’s leg and is common to Persian and Turkish music and also found throughout Central Asia. More recent is the violin which made its way to the Middle East and north Africa from magesy download Europe, it’s high pitch and the fact it can play the eastern (Maqam) scales gave it a special place in modern Middle Eastern music. The Persian Santur is a trapezoid shaped instrument with 72 strings and a 3 octave range. Similar types of instrument could be found all over the world; “Santoor” in India, “Yang qin” in China, “Hammered Dulcimer” in England and “Hackbräde” in Sweden. They are all slightly different in the amount of strings and the timbre but with similar constructions. We have sampled the Persian Santur with 2 types of mallets in 3 velocities, “Santur 1” (hard mallets) and “Santur 2” (soft mallets). You also get a huge set of different glisses, fx both tonal and percussive divided into 6 programs.

The Daf (or Dap) is a large Persian frame drum used in popular and classical music. The frame is usually made of hardwood with many metal ringlets attached by hooks, and the membrane is usually goatskin. The Daf is used mostly in the Middle East and Central Asia, to accompany singing and performances on the tambur, violin, oud, saz, and kanun. Dafs can be played to produce highly complex and intense rhythms, causing one to enter a trance and reach an ecstatic state. For this reason, they have always been connected with religion. In Iran, Sufis use Dafs during their spiritual chanting rituals.
