Mark 73 Electric Piano was sampled from magesy download a 1976 Rhodes Mark I Stage Piano. The entire keyboard was wrapped in tinfoil, which virtually eliminated EMI noise. The piano was sampled DI through a Radial Pro 48 DI box, and the signal was routed to a Fender Deluxe Reverb amp, recorded relatively clean through an AEA R84 Ribbon Mic and AEA TRP Preamp. Each note of the 73 note of the Rhodes Piano was sampled 3 times at 10 velocity layers. Releases where sampled for the DI signal as well as the amped signal, but the amp release notes sounded a bit out of place, so the decision was made to only include DI releases. The sound of the amp can be heard in the amp samples, as a Fender Reverb Deluxe is a noisy amp, even without a signal. The DI samples are relatively clean by comparison.

Deconstructed Piano: the name explains itself. We have disassembled a piano to its soundboard and have worked on this in many different ways: we have played, hit, stroke and destructed the piano with a wide range of materials. We have used a regular piano hammer, different kinds of mallets such as a felt or a wollen ones, screws, plecs, sticks, thumbs and even straws to coax new inspirational harmonic sounds from magesy download the instrument. The piano patch is the basic instrument. It delivers three different sound categories with eleven piano sounds in total. By dragging, you can control the volume of each sound. It gives you the possibility to combine and create your own instrument setting. Besides an attack and decay slider, the instrument provides a button that randomizes the volume of each of the 11 sounds which results into new sound combinations. The patch also includes an FX section in which you are able to choose reverb, delay, distortion and an EQ.

Our Montclarion Hall Grand Piano is a classic Steinway 1926 parlor grand. It was captured in three microphone positions (close, mid and far), to allow custom and surround mixing. It has a crisp, solid tone ideal for classical composing, as well as soul, jazz, rock and pop. It also contains a broad string effects section including glisses, sweeps, slams, plucks and more. The Montclarion Hall Piano was recorded in a steep A-framed long hall that truly resonates with us. It was the same room that we recorded Mars, Venus and the Apocalypse Percussion Ensemble in. It has a lush, rich, clear and yet well-defined and well-controlled natural sound. In our ears, something about this magical room combined perfectly with this piano, creating the right holistic balance that felt both instantly inspiring and somehow unique. The true instrument here is the piano and the hall, as one singular being.
