An EDM producer knows that the kick drum can make or break his or her track. Finding the right kick drum sample that fits perfectly in the mix can be difficult and time consuming. We’ve all been in a situation of going through hundreds of samples, test-fitting and processing them for hours or days, only to end up disappointed. Here is the course that will teach you how to synthesize your own amazing kick drums that will fit perfectly in the mix. I’ll walk you through designing your own kick drum. Using LennarDigital’s Sylenth1, we’ll start with a simple sine wave and end up with huge kick samples. We’ll even test drive the samples with melody and percussion loops so we can hear how they sound in action.

In this course, music industry veteran and synth designer Chris Meyer uses the Arturia Modular V software—a realistic emulation of the original Moog modular synths of the 1960s and 1970s—to teach you how to “patch” a modular synth to create your own sounds. Chris starts with the fundamentals of how harmonics and sound work, as well as how to connect the modules together. He then goes through the main modules individually, explaining the differences between oscillator waveshapes, filter types, and more, while demonstrating how to use them in a musical context. The third chapter teaches advanced techniques such as frequency and amplitude modulation, as well as using the effects and advanced filters in Arturia Modular V.
