Betelgeuse is a brand new soundset of 150 patches for u-he’s Zebra2 synth. Betelgeuse is a collection of malevolent, dramatic and damaged sounds. A well balanced blend of organic and synth sounds specially designed for widescreen scores. Betelgeuse is the darkest collection for Zebra2 inspired by the music of Ben Frost (Dark), Hildur Gudnadottir (Chernobyl), Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein (Stranger Things) and Charlie Clouser (Saw). Betelgeuse also uses pitch shifting techniques to bring that slightly unstable and drifting analogue feel. Blood pounding basses and basslines, suspenseful percussion loops, dramatic leads and pads, deep infernal soundscapes, dynamic and intriguing emotive sequences, sinister keys and mallets going out of tune, an amalgam of bizarre noises infused with tension and drama which are a delight for cinematic compositions.

Valis is a dark cinematic analog tour de force collection of 180 signature patches for U-He Zebra 2.8. The set contains a wide sound palette of gloomy darkness and strange evil, balanced with a hint of salvaging light. There are characterful arpeggios, dark basslines and basses, twisted synth keys with after-key dynamics, silky warm pads to driving, tense pulses and ominous soundscapes. Being both beautiful and sinister by nature, these sounds are perfectly suited to be used in TV/Film and sci-fi underscore dramas and horror. While heavily influenced by artists Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein of Stranger Things fame, additional influences can be attributed to artists such as Ben Frost, Apparat, Disasterpeace and Vangelis. Many patches offer added adaptability programmed into the modwheel and aftertouch is used for more expression. All sounds have a few dB headroom and X/Y assignments for further exploring. Valis requires Zebra 2.8. The cover artwork is created by concept artist Andrey Vozny and licensed with permission. All sounds in the demos below are from magesy download Valis, except some drums and sound effects.

Arkhangel is inspired by the soundtracks of Cristobal Tapia de Veer, such as Humans, Utopia and National Treasure, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross‘ work on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network; the Breaking Bad soundtrack by Dave Porter; as well other avant garde artists like Alex Somers, Scntfc and Boards of Canada. Bleeps and bloops, glitchy pitch, perplexing instruments, analogue drift, crusty loops, sequences devoid of sense and textures born from magesy download unease; Zebra Arkhangel moves from magesy download unfathomable darkness to playful idiocy in the blink of an eye. This Dark Edition takes the original 180 patches and gives them a darker, more analogue, more weird spin – the Dark Edition download also includes the original 180 Zebra2 patches.

Imagine – you can create any additive, freehand or spline-based waveform you like, apply a vast selection of spectral effects, morph between those waves and send them through classic synth filters. Perhaps use that entire sound as modulator for an FM oscillator, or route it through a comb filter – the building block of physical modeling synthesis. A year ago, I was working on my very first feature film score, a hugely enjoyable, independent British, horror comedy called The Snarling. The soundtrack has recently been mastered for release, so I thought it would also be fun to make the synth sounds I designed for the score available too. The Snarling soundset contains synth patches for Zebra2, ZebraHZ and Massive. There are 100 each for the two Zebra synths and 50 for Massive, totalling 250 patches.

u-he’s Zebra2 is a real animal of a virtual analog synth, and in this video tutorial series, synth expert covers every aspect of this amazing virtual software instrument! Scottie begins with a birds-eye-view of Zebra2 as a whole, before focusing in on the patch window. He then covers the Synthesis window, where you create patches, load modules, and work with signal flow. This leads into a discussion of the global settings such as Voice Mode to determine polyphony and general performance settings. Next, Scottie explains and explores the Oscillator section, including all of its sub-panels containing fine tuning parameters for customizing nearly every aspect of the oscillator.

Zebra Gravastar: Dark Edition is a collection of 360 sounds for U-he’s Zebra2 and ZebraHZ synthesizers, aimed at cinematic scoring with a dark, organic edge. The bulk of this soundset was originally designed for composer Jason Graves to use for his amazing score for Ubisoft’s Far Cry: Primal. Jason’s brief for the project was hilariously simple: “Imagine synthesizers as played by cavemen.” So, Gravastar focuses on non-traditional synth sounds, inspired by more natural sonic character: wood, glass, rock, dirt, noise, distortion, resonance, light and fire. The soundset is full of deep rhythms, shadowy pulses and ethnic loops, as well as ghostly textures, tectonic bass and luminescent pads. These sounds are alive and breathing; growing and evolving.
